چکیده

Imidacloprid, , is a neonicotinoid, a class of neuro-active insecticides modeled after nicotine. The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the effect of imidacloprid treatment on growth and phosphatase activity in soil isolate Bacillus weihenstephanensis (SP-03). The soil isolate was isolated after enrichment cultures, as imidacloprid tolerant bacteria. Cells of Bacillus weihenstephanensis were exposed to imidacloprid of concentrations ranging from 10 -7 to 10 -3 M for a period of 96 hrs. Treatment with higher dose (10 -4 and 10 -3 M) of imidacloprid caused no significant increase in the phosphatase activity, whereas, significant increase was observed in the lower dose (10-7, 10-6 and 10-5 M) of imidacloprid. The growth of the isolate was dose dependent and increase in concentration of imidacloprid lead to decreased growth. The results of present investigation revealed that imidacloprid intoxication effects the growth and development of bacteria by inhibiting metabolic enzymes and other proteins necessary for the growth.

Effect of Imidacloprid on Bacterial Soil Isolate Bacillus weihenstephanensis

Imidacloprid is a chloronicotinyl insecticide used widely to control biting and sucking in‐ sects. The over accumulation of this pesticide in environment requires higher awareness about this pesticide. Present investigation was carried out to analyze the effect of imida‐ cloprid on antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase in soil isolate Bacillus weihenstephanen...

Bioaugmentation of Soil Contaminated with Azoxystrobin

The presence of fungicides in the natural environment, either resulting from deliberate actions or not, has become a serious threat to many ecosystems, including soil. This can be prevented by taking appropriate measures to clear the environment of organic contamination, including fungicides. Therefore, a study was conducted aimed at determining the effect of bioaugmentation of soil exposed to ...

Bacillus thuringiensis and Bacillus weihenstephanensis Inhibit the Growth of Phytopathogenic Verticillium Species

Verticillium wilt causes severe yield losses in a broad range of economically important crops worldwide. As many soil fumigants have a severe environmental impact, new biocontrol strategies are needed. Members of the genus Bacillus are known as plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) as well as biocontrol agents of pests and diseases. In this study, we isolated 267 Bacillus strains from root-ass...

Characterization of metal-resistant plant-growth promoting Bacillus weihenstephanensis isolated from serpentine soil in Portugal.

A metal-resistant bacterial strain SM3 isolated from a serpentine soil in the north-east of Portugal was characterized as Bacillus weihenstephanensis based on the morphological and biochemical characteristics and on the comparative analysis of the partial 16S ribosomal DNA sequence. Bacillus weihenstephanensis SM3 showed a high degree of resistance to nickel (1500 mg l(-1)), copper (500 mg l(-1...
